Clothes are to make the human being look better than they actually are, but don't make the mistake of thinking that is their ONLY virtue as they are still very useful when no observers are to be found, and nakedness has its place, even in the halls of Diplomacy and Power.
In many cases they are gift wrapping to be carefully, and often not so carefully removed. Great information Mr Thompson; far superior to ignorance, if only the virtues of courage and good taste could be impended as an inherent consequence, faithfully evoked in the subjects.
During Uni in 1980, Our coterie of Hipsters used to dress in high quality English drape 3 piece suits we picked up at Salvo type stores.Spotless Thousand buck suits we had picked up for a buck often in cashmere and Harris Tweed; the good old days. I learnt a lot from wearing those suits and observing effects.
In those days I once took a gal out to dinner and surprised her in a Breachan an Feilagh Mhor, (Great Wrap Kilt) 18th century linen shirt, 18th century 12 button waistcoat and Short coat with turn back sleeves (think 18th century frock coat without the frock) Mid calf leather boots with Stowhasser half chaps to the knee, with knee high, even when turned back over the garters, hand made pure wool Austrian Hose. Topped off
with a woolen silver
Grey Jacobite Beret with 13" flight hand made on Barra, and Linen Cravat. All hand made and hand stitched, even the felled seams and cross stitched casting; all to museum specs. We arty types are weird lot :)
The Gal was apprehensive at first but quickly became clingy and proud when the other Girls went nuts. The men laughed and tried to intimidate... but only for about 30 seconds, when they noticed how the gals reacted, then they too shifted to like polarity, all feeling a bit outplayed in their ubiquitous conformity as the sunlight missed them :) ( and one must not omit the Marquis of Queensbury in ones artistic curriculum; at least not in Australia trust me on this :-{)
A faint heart never won a fair maidens heart nor much of anything else, and this was one of the smartest things I ever dared to do. Sadly, a few Scotts had thought of the concept first LOL. The second was the 2nd dinner date; to show up in one of the English drape 3 piece master pieces with full wing Eel skin Brogues and Fedora Sky piece with take away quisine, 3 magnums of Moet et Chandon and taking her to dinner on a beach at Sunset with a 44 gallon drum fire drum burning. She thought it was Christmas, and all that is implied by it.
Think, know, dare, and prepare well for all possibilities, but do not necessarily say too much. People are most entertained when they are surprised 50% of the time and can predict the rest. The art lies in making them tacitly think THEY thought of the prescient aspects.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588768300820642957.post-29754596261507966102014-04-26T05:00:43.191-04:002014-04-26T05:00:43.191-04:00I never did read anything else which was comparabl...I never did read anything else which was comparable good and true!
ACHIMAchimhttp://www.achimthepooh.denoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588768300820642957.post-7562733979723468642014-04-03T17:57:15.749-04:002014-04-03T17:57:15.749-04:00To which one should certainly add Mark Twain's...To which one should certainly add Mark Twain's observation that "Clothes make the man.
